3.1 Medicare: Reiteration of 1980 Resolution with 2 Additions
Whereas, The health care of Canadians is a priority concern for all citizens; and,
Whereas, The costs of the delivery of health care services are being greatly increased by inflation, the aging population, and the demands of the Canadian people; and,
Whereas, The government by its change of method of funding has given more flexibility and discretion to the provincial governments; and,
Whereas, The purpose of the federal government in providing funds to the provinces for health care services is that the program would be universal, comprehensive, portable, accessible and accountable; and,
Whereas, There is violation of these principles through user fees, extra billing and opting out; therefore be it,
RESOLVED, That The National Council of Women of Canada urge the Government of Canada to take steps to protect the delivery of the health care system by proceeding to enact the new Canada Health Act.
