83.10 Improved and Faster Passenger Rail Service
Whereas, The railway was instrumental in linking and unifying Canada; and
Whereas, In this time of economic depression upgrading of passenger rail facilities would offer alternative employment to Canadians; and,
Whereas, Passenger rail transportation has the potential to be quicker, more efficient, less environmentally damaging and is safer than road travel either by automobile or motor coach; be it,
RESOLVED, That The National Council of Women of Canada urge the Government of Canada to make the necessary investments and adjustments to permit significant increases in the average speeds and quality of service of passenger trains throughout Canada to encourage substantially greater use of passenger rail transport.
