69.4 Hazards of Coloured Television

Whereas, A recent survey in the United States discloses that a considerable number of colour television sets emit potentially dangerous radiation; and,

Whereas, Despite the fact that colour television sets in Canada are similar to or the same as those in the United States, the Canadian Standards Association has announced that its tests have not demonstrated dangerous levels of radiation; and,

Whereas, Results of these two surveys are conflicting; therefore,

RESOLVED, That the National Council of Women of Canada urge the Government of Canada to take steps to ascertain to what extent such a hazard exists in Canada and if necessary take all the required measures to minimize and to eliminate such a source of potential danger to the Canadian public.

Reiteration of Previous Policy Resolutions

While presenting the foregoing resolution, the Council would re-iterate strong and continuing concern in regard to:

  • Taxation;
  • Education, including consumer education;
  • Conservation of national resources;
  • Adequate recreation areas and National Park Lands;
  • Safety regulations;
  • Air, water, and soil pollution;
  • Medical use of drugs;
  • Needs of the sole parent;
  • Housing;
  • All aspects of family welfare; and
  • The continuing disproportionate number of women appointed to Government Boards, Commissions, and policy-making positions under Federal jurisdiction.
