84.5 Appraisal Military Strength
Whereas
- The people of Canada desire peace, and in the present world situation, it appears that peace can only be attained through security made possible by military preparedness.
- Canada’s security threats have increased significantly since the publication of the 1971 White Paper on Defence.
- The Special Senate Sub-Committee on National Defence reports that Canada lacks the minimum military strength to meet peacetime obligations, alliance commitments, or conduct wartime tasks effectively.
- The military does not prioritize maintaining a properly equipped force with a supporting defence industry.
Resolved
That the National Council of Women of Canada (NCWC) urge the Government of Canada to:
- Develop a new policy or statement of purpose outlining clear objectives for Canada’s military forces.
- Ensure that manpower and resources required for Canada’s peacetime obligations, alliances, and military tasks are provided according to a set timetable.
