Recognising the importance of recent discussions in the UN Commission on the Status of Women on the significance of the role of men and boys in work to promote gender equality,
Aware of the crucial role of men and boys in changing stereotyped images of women in the press, media and in the work-place, and
Conscious of the importance of men and boys in work to curb violence against women and girls, and criminal acts involving trafficking in women,
The International Council of Women calls upon all member Councils to urge their Governments to:
1. Encourage and support work nationally, regionally and internationally to promote understanding of the role of men and boys as active agents of positive change in the work towards equality and recognition of full human rights for women, and
2. Develop and implement initiatives at all levels within their countries, to ensure the fuller recognition by men and boys of the importance of full and equal responsibility of women and men in society, in the home, the community and the workplace.
