Rape in Marriage

Referring to the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW) Article XVI (c) and (e)


Concerned that rape in marriage is legally recognized or generally acceptable in certain traditions and patriarchal stereotypes


Deploring that nutrition may be withheld for not complying with sexual intercourse


Recalling CEDAW Article V (a)


The International Council of Women rejects the idea of domination over or submission of women and calls upon its national councils to campaign strongly against such practices as undermining women's dignity and violating their human rights.
