Reminding that the United Nations has proclaimed the decade 2005-2015 "Decade for Education on Sustainable Development",
Knowing that Sustainable Development is one which provides for the needs of the present without compromising the needs of future generations,
Considering that Sustainable Development with its four-point plan to embrace economic, social, cultural and environmental concerns all the nations of the world and all the aspects of life,
Noting that women, by seeking to improve the quality of life for their children and for those of future generations, are one of Sustainable Development's key advocates,
The International Council of Women calls upon all its member national councils to:
1. Lobby for their governments to integrate the subject of Sustainable Development into formal and informal educational programmes, at all levels from pre-school to university,
2. Engage with the media to publicise the concept of Sustainable Development and to inform the public at large about the requirements and problems associated with Sustainable Development in both developed and developing countries,
3. Educate women about the important part they can play, individually and collectively in their daily lives, to help find long-term solutions to obstacles to achieving Sustainable Development,
And by so doing to:
4. Ensure a viable future for their children and the generations to come.
