Recalling the Global Action Programme on Education for Sustainable Development, which the General Assembly took note of in its resolution 69/211 of 19 December 2014, as a follow-up to the United Nations Decade of Education for Sustainable Development after 2014, as endorsed by the General Conference of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation at its 37th Session,
Conscious of the development of informatization processes and the dynamic changes in society at all levels,
Recalling also the UNECE Convention on "Access to Information, Public Participation in Decision-making and Access to Justice in Environmental Matters", resolution 2/3 of 23-26 May 2016 adopted at UNEP-2,
Realising the importance of access to environmental information and education at the national and international levels without exception, and the importance of public discussion of any issues related to environmentally relevant solutions,
Recognizing that environmental and social rights of humans are realized through the full and timely receipt of environmental information and education, and that access to ecological information ensures the principles of sustainable development, rational use of natural resources and preservation of the environment for future generations,
Aware that women are biologically more vulnerable to harmful health effects of pollutants than men, and more often deal with environmental issues and education for future generations,
Also Aware of the need for full and wide access to environmental information and education, including promotional activities, regardless of nationality, age or gender,
THE INTERNATIONAL COUNCIL OF WOMEN CALLS ON ITS NATIONAL COUNCILS TO:
• Cooperate with all stakeholders and work towards access, including universally available electronic access, to environmental information, education, and eco-tourism;
• Remind governments of their moral and ethical responsibilities to provide access to environmental information and education, and to prevent any restrictions and concealment of such information at the national and international levels;
• Promote the creation of women's ecological education for the making of meaningful decisions in the environmental sphere, and to give stronger support to organizations providing non-formal environmental education programs, including summer classes in nature and eco-tourism for young people;
• Stress the urgent need to work towards the universal achievement of a high level of education and knowledge in the field of environmental protection by facilitating the inclusion of environmental education and training in secondary schools and to give priority to young women and girls' education.
