Dealing With the Long-term Effects of COVID-19

2022-08 DEALING WITH THE LONG-TERM EFFECTS OF COVID-19

Whereas #1 COVID-19 has impacted Canada and the world since 2019 in an unprecedented way;

Whereas #2 it has come to light that among survivors of COVID-19, an important number of them, including previously healthy young people, have long-term consequences lasting various lengths of time, some struggling with limited healing to permanent organ damage, which can affect/impede their social and economic independence/autonomy. Therefore, be it:

Resolved #1 that NCWC adopt as policy, that there be proactive medical treatment and financial support for survivors of COVID-19 who suffer from long-term effects; and be it further

Resolved #2 that NCWC urge the Government of Canada to invest/ensure proactive medical treatment and financial support for survivors of COVID-19 who suffer long-term effects,

a) by evaluating the incidence and costs related to the implementation of such services;

b) by adopting disaggregated data collection to this end; and

c) by including administrative costs to track and evaluate the effectiveness & costs of their initiatives; and be it further

Resolved #3 that NCWC urge its’ federates, provincial councils, and local councils to urge their respective jurisdictions:

a) to consider in their budgets projected costs to ensure medical and financial supports for survivors of COVID-19 who struggle with long-term effects of this disease;

b) to apply disaggregated data to their follow-up; and

c) to include administrative costs to track and evaluate the effectiveness & costs of their respective initiatives.
