Whereas 1, the testing of pregnant women results in beneficial treatment for the mother and greatly reduces the incidence of positive HIV in the newborn, and
Whereas 2, the financial cost of prenatal testing and treatment is inconsequential compared to the enormous costs involved in treating and supporting a child who is born HIV positive and who may become an orphan in a very short time, therefore be it
Resolved 1, that the National Council of Women of Canada adopt as policy that HIV testing be a routine part of the care of all pregnant women in Canada.
