Bullying and Cyber Bullying National Prevention Strategy

2013:07 BULLYING AND CYBER BULLYING NATIONAL PREVENTION STRATEGY

Whereas 1        many provinces do not have specific legislation to combat the effects of all bullying, including cyber bullying; and 

Whereas 2        Private Member’s Bill C-273 introduced in 2011, which amends the federal Criminal Code to add cyber bullying as a criminal offence, is presently before the Justice Committee, and has not been adopted by the Canadian parliament; and  

Whereas 3        public awareness campaigns have been shown to be successful as demonstrated by the anti smoking, and the anti-drinking and driving campaigns; therefore be it  

Resolved 1       that the National Council of Women of Canada adopt as policy support for a national bullying and cyber bullying prevention strategy; and be it further  

Resolved 2       that the National Council of Women of Canada urge the Government of Canada to take steps to establish a national bullying and cyber bullying prevention strategy by adding bullying and cyber bullying as criminal offences; and be it further  

Resolved 3       that the National Council of Women of Canada urge the Government of Canada to work with the provincial, territorial and municipal governments to deter and prevent bullying and cyber bullying by using public education campaigns and all present legal remedies available.
