Applauding the efforts of the UN Security Council in unanimously passing Resolution 1325 on Women, Peace and Security on 31 October 2000,
Recognising that the equal access and full participation of women in power structures and their full involvement in all efforts for the prevention and resolution of conflicts are essential for the maintenance and promotion of peace and security;
Regretfully recognising the escalation of violence, terror attack in the U.S. 11th September 2001, Bali 12th October 2002, and the threat of further conflict,
Recalling the resolutions passed by ICW General Assemblies for more than a century (The Hague 1899, Toronto 1909, Rome 1914 and Helsinki 2000);
THE INTERNATIONAL COUNCIL OF WOMEN
States its support for increased representation of women at all decision-making levels,
Urges the UN Secretary General to implement the strategic plan of action (A/49/587) calling for an increase in the participation of women at decision-making levels in conflict resolution and peace processes,
Also urges member National Councils to press their respective governments to ensure that gender mainstreaming issues are accounted for in all conflict resolution, peacekeeping, peacemaking and post conflict reconstruction, as stated in the UN Security Council Resolution 1325.
