VP Justice/WAGE

Megan Walker

Megan Walker is a lifelong Londoner and dedicated advocate for justice and community safety. She played a key role in keeping the Carson Branch Library open in East London and launched local literacy and children’s programs. Elected to London City Council in 1994, Walker championed justice and equality, chairing several major committees and boards.

In 1997, she became Executive Director of the London Abused Women’s Centre (LAWC), transforming it into an internationally recognized agency serving 9,000 women and girls annually by her retirement in 2022. She introduced immediate-access services, major fundraising initiatives, and the Shine the Light on Woman Abuse Campaign, which gained national and international adoption.

Walker has been a leading voice for criminalizing prostitution in Canada, frequently presenting to government committees and serving as an expert witness on victims’ rights and violence against women. Her advocacy was cited in a landmark Ontario court decision upholding Canada’s prostitution laws.

She has spoken at global conferences, including the UN Women conference in Geneva, and continues to advise governments and organizations on issues like femicide, sex trafficking, and criminal justice reform. Walker has served on the London Police Service Board since 2022, currently as vice-chair, and is a recipient of numerous national honors, including the Governor General’s Medal and the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal.
