93.14RU Reiteration and Update of Existing Policy: Pensions for Members of Parliament
[Whereas,] Rationale:
Further restraint in government spending is needed because the economy is in dire straits. NCWC first suggested in 1973 that pensions for Members of Parliament begin at retirement age, as they do for most Canadians, and not after 6 years as an M.P., as is currently the case.
[RESOLVED,] The National Council of Women of Canada urges the Government of Canada to revise the pension plan for Members of Parliament so that:
- Pensions of Members of Parliament commence at age sixty-five or, if earlier, with a penalty; and,
- Pensions are calculated on the person's years of service as a Member of Parliament.
