69.2 National Parks
Whereas:
- The geophysical characteristics of Canada are highly diverse.
- The natural terrain, flora, and fauna are disappearing due to accelerating development.
- Certain regions have unique characteristics that should be preserved for future generations.
Resolved:
- The National Council of Women of Canada (NCWC) requests that the Government of Canada, after consultation with affected peoples, take immediate action to create national parks in significant locations, including:
- Atlantic Shore
- Gaspé
- Laurentian Forest
- Great Lakes Shore
- Muskoka
- Prairies
- British Columbia Rain Forest
- Pacific Tidal Flats
- The establishment of a national park in the Pacific Tidal Flats from the Peace Arch to Point Roberts should be considered an urgent priority.
- The NCWC urges the Government of Canada to ensure that these parks:
- Are large enough to preserve their natural integrity.
- Maintain ecological viability.
- Have protective measures outside park boundaries to safeguard their natural state.
