Noting that migration has become feminized,
Concerned about the situation of these women who are sometimes alone, without family support, and are forced to accept underpaid jobs, a situation that confines them in a precarious and vulnerable situation,
Aware that migration exposes these women to risks of physical and sexual violence,
Also aware that migrant women who are homeless and destitute are exposed to mental suffering and deterioration of their health,
Emphasizing that the integration of migrant women and girls is one of the strategies to protect and ensure their dignity,
Considering the United Nations conventions on the protection of human rights,
THE INTERNATIONAL COUNCIL OF WOMEN CALLS ON ITS AFFILIATED COUNCILS TO URGE THEIR RESPECTIVE GOVERNMENTS TO TAKE STEPS TO:
• Strengthen laws to prevent violence against migrant women and girls;
• Integrate the cause of migrant women into the struggle for women's human rights at both national and international levels;
• Regularize the situation of migrant women to minimize dangerous situations;
• Improve conditions of access to basic services and infrastructures (e.g. education, training, and health);
• Build the capacity of migrant women through training to empower them to find work through income-generating activities.
