Aware that armed conflict continues in many countries, and that the human rights of civilians, particularly women and children, are gravely affected,
Recognizing the importance of all binding International Conventions on Human rights; particularly the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (1989) and the United Nations Security Council Resolution 1325 of 31/10/2000,
THE INTERNATIONAL COUNCIL OF WOMEN Urges its affiliated National Councils to bring to the attention of their national Governments the need for urgent international action through the United Nations, or any Regional Grouping of national authorities,
1. to condemn as a war crime the abduction or misuse of children in armed conflict, as child soldiers, or in any other capacity,
2. to call upon all parties in armed conflict to respect fully international law applicable to the rights and protection of civilians, especially children and women,
3. to emphasize the responsibility of all states to put an end to impunity and to prosecute those responsible for crimes against humanity and war crimes,
4. to call upon all parties in armed conflict to respect the civilian and humanitarian character of refugee camps.
