Violence Against Women and Children

CONSIDERING that in the First World Report on Violence and Health 2002 of the World Health Organisation, seven countries are mentioned regarding violence against women and children and the strong relationship of partner violence to child abuse,

DEPLORING this unacceptable situation,

THE INTERNATIONAL COUNCIL OF WOMEN RECOMMENDS that National Councils

1. encourage the implementation of guidelines for the more accurate assessment of child maltreatment and sexual abuse and that these be included in the training of all healthcare and other professionals working with women and children throughout the world,

2. encourage the development of prevention programmes in their countries.
