Bearing in mind that the UN Convention against Corruption (UNCAC) adopted by the GA Resolution 58/4 in 2003 and in force since December 2005,
Recognizing the role played by the Civil Society, especially Non-governmental Organizations,
Aware of the impact of corruption on development,
Concerned about the lack of financial resources for education and the well-being of societies, especially for women, caused by corruption,
Acknowledging the present state of the number of Parties to the Convention and the Signatories (at Present 173 Parties and 140 Signatories),
Bearing in mind the existing Review Mechanism and the role played by the International Academy against Corruption,
Recognizing that "Corruption is the biggest impediment to the Millennium Development Goals" (UN SG Ban Ki-moon) and also is an impediment for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs),
THE INTERNATIONAL COUNCIL OF WOMEN CALLS ON ITS NATIONAL COUNCILS TO:
Urge their respective governments to support and ratify the UNCAC and to renew efforts to ensure the effective implementation of the Convention.
