Considering that rural Women in the world are the most affected by poverty,
Considering the importance of the role that the CSW 56 held in New York from February 27 to March 9, 2012 gave with the theme of "Empowerment of rural Women and their role in poverty and hunger eradication",
Aware of the importance of rural women in families, in the education of the children, in their role to ensure food security,
Reaffirming that the eradication of poverty is one of the biggest challenges in the world and an indispensable condition for sustainable development,
Considering the urgency to take appropriate measures to improve the status of rural women,
THE INTERNATIONAL COUNCIL OF WOMEN urges the governments of its affiliated National Councils of Women:
• To invest in the education and literacy of girls and women in rural areas
• To eliminate discrimination against rural women specially in matter of access to sanitation (water and environmental basic needs in remote areas)
• To improve the access of rural women to their own property of land and access to credit facilities and financial independence
• And finally to improve the maternal health and access to quality health care.
