Considering the key position of the Internet in all aspects of social, economic, as well as educative life, the necessity for all countries (developed countries as well as undeveloped countries) to have access to the Internet, the importance of the Internet in education today,
Concerned by the intense activity of social networks on the Internet, together with the dangers it poses, especially the disclosure of personal information,
Conscious of the proliferation of social networks and of the increasing opportunities to have Internet access, of its frequent use by young people, mostly vulnerable and naïve, of the danger of "Fake News" and of hate messages,
Recalling the previous Resolutions dated 1997 ("Dissemination through the Internet of Messages Adverse to Human Rights") and 2000 ("New Technologies of Information and Communication"),
THE INTERNATIONAL COUNCIL OF WOMEN CALLS ON ITS AFFILIATED COUNCILS TO URGE THEIR GOVERNMENTS TO TAKE MEASURES CONCERNING EDUCATION TO:
• Improve the methods of learning and the quality of education through the Internet;
• Educate students on the responsible use of the Internet;
• Alert young people about the negative effects of the Internet;
• Protect the personal data of users;
• Enact or strengthen legislative and regulatory measures;
• Encourage international judicial cooperation.
