67.3 Indian Band Election Regulations
Whereas, Many sections of the Indian Band Election Regulations as listed in the Indian Act are outdated and vague in meaning; and,
Whereas, There is now a study being made by all Indian Councils and the Indian Affairs Branch (notes on the Indian Act); therefore,
RESOLVED, That the National Council of Women of Canada request the Government of Canada to include in its study of the Indian Act the following changes and additions to the Indian Band Election Regulations:
- Page 2: That the elector be able to vote at the same age as other voters;
- Page 3: That all notices pertaining to elections be printed in black on white cardboard or heavy bleached Kraft paper and by the Queen’s printer or other authorized printers. The wording should be worded in accordance with Section 18, page 269, form 4 – #Schedule I, Form 4, page 122. The notices should be posted in residential areas and in conspicuous places;
- Page 4: That ballot papers for Chief and Councillors be printed ballot papers, in accordance with Section 28, page 293, form 35 – #Schedule I, Form 35, page 155;
- Page 4: That all voting take place in screened compartments in privacy;
- That notices be sent to each householder and eligible voter therein stating the place of poll, date of election, hours open, names of candidates, and names of those eligible to vote in the household.
