2012:05PU HOUSING: A STRATEGY FOR CANADIANS

Whereas 1 in 2002 the National Council of Women of Canada approved PU#2, Affordable Housing calling on the Government of Canada to establish and implement a strong social housing policy that would ensure an adequate supply of safe affordable housing; and

Whereas 2 improved housing conditions are best achieved through cooperative partnerships of governments and the meaningful involvement of local communities; and

Whereas 3 the Parliament of Canada Private Member’s Bill, formerly C-304, re-introduced as C-400, which is receiving widespread support, promotes national goals and programs to seek to improve the quality of life for all Canadians as a basic right; and

Whereas 4 Canada’s wealth and national budget are more than adequate to ensure that every woman, child and man residing in Canada has secure, adequate, accessible and affordable housing as part of a standard of living that will provide healthy, physical, intellectual, emotional, spiritual and social development and a good quality of life; therefore, be it

Resolved 1 that the National Council of Women of Canada adopt as policy that there be a national housing strategy using cooperative government-community partnerships to address the lack of adequate and affordable housing for all; and be it further

Resolved 2 that the National Council of Women of Canada urge the Government of Canada to develop a national housing strategy, using cooperative government-community partnerships, to address the lack of adequate and affordable housing for all; and be it further

Resolved 3 that the National Council of Women of Canada urge Members of Parliament to support Bill C-400, an Act to Secure, Adequate, Accessible and Affordable Housing for Canadians.
