Energy Conservation

89.4 Energy Conservation

[Whereas,] Rationale:

The production and consumption of wood, fossil fuels, and nuclear-based energy create significant negative impacts on the environment, such as deforestation, acid rain, nuclear waste. There is a decline in public awareness of energy conservation strategies and a decline of emphasis by industry on energy efficiency in machinery and equipment.

[RESOLVED,] NCWC urges the Government of Canada to sponsor and develop:

  1. A programme of public awareness regarding the continuing need to conserve energy;
  2. To reduce energy consumption, for example, through fiscal and regulatory action in order to prevent further destruction of the environment;

[RESOLVED,] NCWC would further urge the Government of Canada to restore funding for the Conservation and Alternate Energy Programme, cut by 50 percent in 1988.
