67.8 Establishment of Rehabilitation Centres for Children who are Victims of War

Whereas, Realizing that public concern exists over the plight of children who are victims of war;

and,

Whereas, Investigation has substantiated that there is an overwhelming need for increased aid for these children;

and,

Whereas, Many private charities and organizations are endeavouring to help relieve the inadequate hospital facilities available for wounded, badly burned, and disabled children in areas of war;

and,

Whereas, Thus far, the Canadian Government has not established a rehabilitation centre in South Vietnam in accordance with the recommendations of Dr. Gustave Gingras;

therefore,

RESOLVED, That the National Council of Women of Canada urge the Government of Canada:

  1. To renew its efforts to establish a rehabilitation centre, or centres, for children who are victims of war;
    and,
  2. To delegate the responsibility for this endeavour to the Canadian Red Cross in order to facilitate the quicker implementation of the establishment of a rehabilitation centre, or centres;
    and,
  3. To give substantial aid to other organizations that are presently functioning in the field, until plans for a rehabilitation centre, or centres, can be implemented.
